Charles Stech for Chaska City Council Ward 3. |
|
He is committed to:
1. Community 2. Lower Taxes 3. Economic growth 4. Smarter Government
Community is the key to any city. People come together to be neighbors. Neighbors need to interact with local businesses. Above all the city needs to listen to both. While Charles has been out door-knocking, he makes an effort to stop at each house and talk the citizens. He has realized the majority of citizens don’t know who their city councilor is. Charles plans on holding community get togethers with key city leadership and citizens.
He believes government should not raise taxes on people, in the middle of a recession, Period. The city council unanimously voted to raise the maximum tax rate 6.7%. How many citizens received a raise of 6.7% in the last year or even two years combined?
He would like to maintain the employment in our city and, if possible, expand it. We need to try to keep the businesses we have and try to expand into new ones. The city council just completed a comprehensive plan last year. However, the city council did not like this plan. Instead, they wanted to rehire the firm, who compiled the first plan, and pay $83,000 to redo it. The city used the “un-enacted redo” as the reason they didn’t want development at the old Chaska Building Center (link). Even though the property is currently zoned commercial and has been vacant for years.
He would work to reduce government waste. The wind generator is a prime example. The wind generator was a NATIONAL spectacle, making it all the way to the NY Times. Charles’ young daughter is actually concerned when it is not moving. She received an early lesson about government waste.
Charles and his wife, Judy, have two children (4 and 1). Charles has resided in Chaska for 5 years. Besides living in Ward 3, he also works in Ward 3 for Carver County. He graduated from the University of Minnesota - Duluth with a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration and a Bachelor’s of Arts in Public Administration. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Administration from Minnesota State University - Mankato. He is a member of Guardian Angels church. He is currently the Republican precinct chair for Ward 3.
